Germany - GF Top 5!

Germany is home to an array of fantastic golf courses. Nestled amid the country’s beautiful landscape these courses are often coupled with fabulous resorts, making for an ideal relaxing getaway.

We take a look at five of the best golf resorts in Germany:

Winston Golf

WINSTONopen is ranked 5th in Germany and 84th in Continental Europe.

Winston is home to 45-holes of golf including one of the most talked about courses in Germany. The latest and premier resort at the course, Winston Links is a layout like no other. Once unassuming flat land, the designers moved 1.2 million cubic metres of earth in the building process. The result is an inland course that does an incredible job of replicating a links experience. Golfers will find massive internal slopes and gorse and heather flanking many of the fairways.

Winston Links is one of the best courses in Germany. Nonetheless, the course continues to spark plenty of debate. Whichever way you look at it there’s no doubting Winston Links is like no other inland course in Continental Europe. The other championship course at the resort, WINSTONopen, is also one of Germany’s top layouts. A regular host to the European Senior Tour, the course is also ranked among Germany’s finest tests.

There is also a fun and less intimidating nine-hole course at the resort.

Gut Kaden Golf & Country Club

Ranked 42nd in Germany.

A former host of the Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe, this European Tour host boasts some of the best golf that Northern Germany has to offer. The impressive country estate may once have been home to knights, but the resort has also welcomed its doors to golfing royalty. Tiger Woods is just one of several world-class players who would take to Gut Kaden’s immaculate fairways over the years.

Renowned architect Frank Pennick would design the original eighteen holes at the resort. A further nine played against the backdrop of the mature estate and the River Pinnau, would later be added.

The resort itself is equally spectacular. Just a 20-minute drive from Hamburg Airport, Gut Kaden’s intimate hotel is housed in the estate’s majestic listed buildings and offers guests a personal and intimate place to unwind after a day on the course.

Jakobsberg Hotel & Golfresort

Ranked 21st in Germany.

Located in the “Upper Middle Rhine Valley” UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jakobsberg is a truly spectacular place to play golf. With views over the Rhine’s large loop of Boppard, the resort is home to one of the finest courses in all of Germany. Located on the site of a medieval monastery, the resort was the brainchild of legendary German confectionery maker, Hans Riegel, the owner of Haribo, who purchased the estate back in the 1960’s

Once a hunting ground, the course opened to much acclaim in 1994. There are no weak holes on the course. Instead, golfers will find a strategic test, that brings into play every club in the bag.

Meanwhile, the 4* hotel is an enchanting place, and a great location to explore the numerous castles that line the Rhine.

Golf Resort Bad Griesbach

The Beckenbauer Course ranks 47th in Germany.

Home to an unbelievable six golf courses, as well as three additional nine-hole layouts, Bad Griesbach is the largest golf resort in Germany as it is the home to 4 golf courses: Audi Course, Beckenbauer Course, Uttlau Course and the Brunnwies Course.

The resort is located in the Rott Valley, to the North East of Munich, an area coined the ‘Bavarian Tuscany’. The Bernhard Langer designed Brunnwies course remains the flagship attraction at the resort. A regular feature in the top 20 courses in Europe, the course is renowned for its heavily contoured greens and affords fantastic views of the Lower Bavarian Woods. The second-best course at the resort is a frequent haunt of its namesake, the football legend Franz Beckenbauer, and has consequently earned the nickname, the ‘Kaiser’s Playground.’

Der Margarethenhof Golf & Hotel am Tegernsee

Set amid Bavaria’s enchanting forests and fairways, Margarethenhof enjoys an unparalleled position at the edge of the Alpine foothills. Despite boasting one of the most scenic courses in Germany, a trip to this picturesque escape is about much more than just fantastic golf.

Health and wellbeing form the beating heart of the tranquil resort, which offers an 18-hole golf course, elegant spa facilities, and creative cuisine.

Located high above the Tegernsee, the densely forested layout is set against Bavaria’s beautiful landscape.

The highlight is one of the highest tee-offs in Germany – at an elevation of 950 meters. From this point, the views across the course, and the lakes and mountains beyond are truly sensational.
